It's been a busy week!

Well we're coming to the close of the Alaska State Firefighter's Conference for 2009 and I've had a busy week. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the pre-conference but I did get to take some interesting classes on Firefighter health and fitness as well as a flashover and extreme fire behavior course. Today I was supposed to take a forcible entry class, but it was cut short by last night's events (more on this later.)
Anyway, yes it has been an eventful week for this firefighter with training up the ying-yang! Tomorrow completes the conference for me with a flashover demonstration which will happen about 7:30am before the firefighter competitions. Should be fun!
Yesterday was a busy duty night for us, we were caught in an unseasonal wind storm that caused 2 transformers to blow and catch things on fire as well as the world to erupt with mindless fire alarms. I walked in the door of the station at 6:00pm and didn't walk back in until 1:00am... Needless to say, I was a little too pooped to make the hour drive to Anchorage at 6:00 this morning after an evening of calls. Nevertheless, tomorrow!
No more structure fires since the last post, but the season has begun. The temperature is dropping, it's time for me to get out my winter coat, snow tires, and ice scraper. Here comes fun!

Ugh, ice scrappers.... We're still a few weeks away from that here in Manitoba, but she's a coming for us too. I feel for ya.
